New web series titled “Smoke and Mirrors” Premiers June 21st

| June 13, 2013

SmokeAndMirrorsChristmas in July 1982 has returned just in time for the summer with a new webseries, created in the same DIY spirit that made their previous effort “P.O.P. (Power of Pussy)” a viral success.  On June 21st  the new series titled“Smoke and Mirrors” will premiere online.

Series co-creators Artemus Jenkins and KarynRose Bruyning have prided themselves on delivering content that is of the moment, but still provides fresh perspectives on areas of black culture that we are familiar with. The territory they will delve into with this project revolves around the complex world of male and female relationships. Although it may seem this topic has been explored every which way possible, Writer and Director KarynRose feels “there aren’t enough examples of what relationships look like for both sides. We have unfairly all become comfortable with the idea that men are womanizers and women are crazy. This is not the picture of what relationships are and as a woman, I thought it necessary to educate people on what the truth is and them what it looks like for the sake of love everywhere.”

Inspiration for the series came from a very personal place, especially for Co-Creator and Director Artemus Jenkins. “The idea for this series came to me the morning after my most recent relationship ended. As I was laying on the couch trying to figure out what I was going to do with myself as a newly single man the ideas just started pouring out of me and I decided I should go ahead and tell my story, without necessarily trying to create something that would seem like a how-to guide for women.”

This series will be Christmas in July’s first foray into narrative filmmaking, utilizing a host of new faces and a few that fans of Christmas in July will recognize from their other projects. Despite the fact this series will use a more scripted approach, the material itself was created to be very much rooted in reality, “We want people to be able to see themselves. We want them to laugh, we want them to be embarrassed, we want them to feel enlightened and we want them to see the truth. Relationships are easy if you get out of your own way. Getting out of your way though, that’s where shit gets difficult.
