Akon Talks Investing In Africa, Being A Role Model & More
In a CNN African Voices special with Isha Sesay, Akon talks about his childhood, music and the importance of investing in Africa. The Senegalese born singer/rapper also talks about his past and becoming a better role model.
In one part of the interview Akon states:
“It was a confusing moment for me because there was a lot of success. Africa was one of the biggest markets for me. That’s what actually got me known everywhere else so they were expecting a certain ‘me.’
I wasn’t that me that they were expecting…
I was one of the first artists to break in internationally on that level from Africa.
So, Africa was really expecting me to represent them well. And I wasn’t really doing that. ”
